Research Overview

After years of development, the medical school has made great progress in scientific research. By continuously optimizing the teaching staff, strengthening discipline construction, and improving and upgrading scientific research platforms, a series of measures have greatly promoted the rapid improvement of scientific research level, and produced a batch of internationally visible research results, and the research mode has changed from following to leading.

From the establishment of the hospital to the present, through the exploration and development of the four five-year plans, it has formed covering molecular biology, immunology, tumor biology, regeneration and aging, infectious disease, neuroscience, biomedical engineering and clinical medicine, etc. The comprehensive medical discipline layout of the disciplines has laid a good foundation for the development of the school's pharmacy and public health disciplines. Immunology, infectious diseases and microbiology have developed into dominant disciplines; biomedical engineering has been selected as a national "double first-class" discipline, and has developed in coordination with life sciences and public health disciplines, initially forming a medical and health discipline group.

The college has successively established several research institutions and platforms, laying a solid foundation for promoting scientific research innovation and accelerating the transformation of results. Significant progress has been made in many aspects such as national-level subjects, scientific research funding, and publication of SCI articles. In 2020, the medical school has 840 research projects, a year-on-year increase of 22.4%, and the actual scientific research funding is more than 220 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 51.4%. 110 new projects were added, a year-on-year increase of 20.8%, and the total funding for new projects was approximately 228 million, a year-on-year increase of 68.9%. In 2020, a total of 243 SCI/EI papers with Tsinghua University School of Medicine as the first author/corresponding author were published. Among them, 17 papers were published in the top international journals CNS (Cell/Nature/Science), including 4 in Science and 3 in Cell. Nature10 articles.

Since the outbreak of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, the medical school's scientific research team has quickly invested in antiviral technology and vaccine research and development, focusing on respiratory polyvirus detection technologies and products, providing valuable medical interventions for frontline clinical treatment and prevention. On the afternoon of March 2, 2020, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, President of the State, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission came to the School of Medicine of Tsinghua University to inspect the scientific research and diagnosis and treatment of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, and learn about vaccines, antibodies, drugs, rapid inspection products and other research And application progress, visit and condolences experts and scientific researchers, and preside over a symposium to listen to the opinions and suggestions of responsible comrades and scientific researchers of relevant departments.
